Lipomas

Lipomas typically do not require treatment, and there is no known treatment to stunt their growth or prevent them. However, surgical removal may be recommended if the lipoma becomes painful, inflamed or infected, if it drains smelly discharge, if it increases in size, if it interferes with movement, or becomes bothersome and difficult to look at. Cedar

Lipomas can be treated by applying a cedar ointment to the affected area three times per day. Mix five drops of cedar extract with two teaspoons of water and drink three times daily, then rub the ointment into your skin.

Audi A3 Design & Style

For starters, it looks a lot similar to the A4 now thanks to the redesigned LED DRLs. The car that we got, featured all LED headlamps as well, though it is not a part of the standard kit. It now sports the hexagonal ‘Diamond-inspired’ single frame grille as a part of the family design. The front bumper has been redesigned and features slimmer air vents that lend a sporty appeal to the styling. The shoulder line is more prominent and at the rear, the tail lamps retain their shape but the detailing is now different and also boast dynamic turn indicators, like the ones on the new A4.

The rear bumper has been given an overhaul as well and now looks a bit more aggressive and sporty. Panoramic sunroof though is standard across the range. It also now runs on new 16-inch alloys shod with Bridgestone or Michelin rubber.

The A3’s interior isn’t very different from other Audis, but there are a few things that will make you sit up and take notice. The first thing is the MMI screen – it pops up out of a slot at the top of the centre console, which is very impressive. Paired to this is the rotary knob on the centre console which has a touchpad on the top. This is much like a laptop computer’s mousepad, and you can write on it with a finger and it will recognise the letters, no matter how bad the handwriting. (We tried it, it works.) The second is the new design of the air vents. Audi says they’re modelled on a jet fighter’s turbines. Claims of turbofan resemblance aside, they are very pretty things, and the bezels have to be rotated to cut airflow. The crowning glory is the central circle – pull to focus airflow, and push for a diffused effect. This should help in cooling all of you equally rather than just one ear or your fingers.

All the usual bells and whistles are present – leather upholstery with contrasting stitching, a very nice four-spoke steering wheel, a multi-function display, a CD player with different multimedia options and a 20 GB hard drive, and dual zone climate control. The AC is effective and has a rear blower as well. Sat nav is an optional extra for some variants but is standard for the top-spec variant.

The seats are comfortable, of course, but tall people should stick to the front. The rear is surprisingly roomy for the car’s size (and roofline), with just enough headroom and knee room for a six-footer. Three abreast is going to be a big ask, though. Two at the rear will be comfortable, what with the armrest and dual cupholders and even a 12V socket exclusively for the rear seat. The A3 gets access via the central armrest recess at the rear to the 425 litre boot, which is a lot larger than that figure suggests. If it isn’t large enough for you, the rear seats split and fold flat for greater convenience.

The 2017 A3 comes with a choice of two power-plants – a 1.4-litre TFSI turbo petrol and the familiar 2-litre TDI diesel. Whereas the former is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the more efficient diesel works in conjunction with a 6-speeder – also a dual clutch unit.

Starting with the petrol variant, Audi has replaced the old 1.8-litre TFSI unit in favour of this 1.4-litre motor which makes 150bhp and 250Nm of torque between 1,500 and 3,000rpm. Unlike its competition, the petrol powered A3 comes with cylinder-on-demand tech, which shuts down two of the four cylinders when you’re just pottering around. Within city limits, the motor is surprisingly brisk, pulling strongly from around 2,000rpm. But despite making as much torque as the 1.8-litre unit, the new A3 doesn’t pull as hard as the older car. Where the 1.8-litre motor pushed you back in your seat, the 1.4-litre motor feels more linear and laidback in the way it goes about its business. As for refinement, the new A3 offers impressively low NVH, with a near silent idle and staying composed till about 4000rpm. Its only near the redline that the motor gets a bit loud. The 7-speed gearbox is undoubtedly quicker to respond than the competition and teamed with this engine’s eager power delivery, the surge of acceleration is addictive. The only downside to the gearbox is the jerky low speed behaviour and delay in response as you floor the throttle.

The 2-litre diesel continues to offer strong mid-range punch. It may be a little noisy when worked hard but it never feels vibey or harsh. Like in the older car, there is more than sufficient pulling power, all of which is efficiently transferred to the road via a 6-speed dual clutch automatic. Like its petrol-powered counterpart, gearshifts are rapid and smooth on the go but the overall response is a little jerky at crawling speeds.

Audi A3 Driving Dynamics

What we have here is, quite simply, one of the sweetest-handling Audi sedans we’ve come across in years. We’ve always found the handling of the bigger As to be really competent, but this one adds another element – fun. It’s simply a joy to chuck around corners, and that’s down to a number of factors. Primarily, it’s the very stiff chassis, which has allowed Audi to give the A3 softer suspension without corrupting the dynamics. Then there’s the steering, which though still not perfect, feels miles more direct and full of feel than just about any other recent Audi. The end result is a car that will eagerly dart into corners as quickly as you dare throw it. It feels light on its feet, there’s not too much understeer, with loads of grip, despite the lack of Quattro, and the body roll is all but imperceptible.

As for the ride, in the diesel, with its stiffer front end, you will feel a bit more of what’s going on under the tyres, particularly at city speeds over, for instance, a poorly paved piece of tarmac. Even so, it’s not as firm as the Mercedes A-class, and Audi’s equivalent of a ‘rough road package’ for India (read: added stiffness) seems to have been calibrated perfectly for our conditions. The petrol model is even better, with a slightly softer edge, especially when you consider our test cars were top-spec, wearing 17-inch wheels on 45-profile tyres. It’s impressive that Audi has managed to achieve this sort of compliance without the adaptive suspension trickery that you find in the bigger cars. The only fly in the ointment is road noise, and a fair bit of it comes into the cabin as you pick up speed. All said and done, Audi has nailed the ride and handling package on the A3, and for once it’s something we hope filters upwards into the next A4.

The A3 has a lot going for it – it looks great, especially in scarlet with 17-inch rims, has a ton of features that aren’t present at the price, and has enough performance to keep customers happy. It is also a first mover in the segment. Surprisingly, at the price that we expect it to go on sale, Rs 26-28 lakh, it will be great value for money as well, so we have no doubt that should Audi stick to that price, it will have another great product flying off their shelves.

Mercedes-Benz has taken a completely new approach towards the design of the new C-Class. The front seats offer good support and have been designed to fit all kinds of people, you sit snug and the seat hugs you thereby ensuring no fatigue even on long drives. Both the front seats are electrically adjustable with memory function. The new C-Class is aimed at the rear passenger, as so evident by the sun blinds on the windows of the rear doors as well as an electrically operated one for the rear windshield. The rear AC vents have seven fan speeds and we love the way the buttons operate, you push up or down to toggle. The rear seat now offers much needed improvement in legroom which makes the C-Class a good chauffeur driven car, there is also good amount of headroom for tall passengers but under-thigh support is a bit lacking. The rear bench is best for two as the transmission tunnel intrudes massively at the rear, thereby preventing a third person from sitting comfortably. Cabin lights at the rear are placed at either ends as the panoramic roof prevents a centre cabin light from being placed. While boot space is decent, the placement of the space saver tyre in the boot (and not under it) hampers its usage.

The new-gen C-Class is available in two engine options – a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel. The former produces a maximum power of 181bhp at 5, 500rpm and 300Nm at 1, 200rpm – 4, 000rpm, while the latter offers 167.62bhp at 3, 000rpm – 4, 200rpm and 400Nm at 1, 400rpm – 2, 800rpm. Transmitting power to the rear wheels is a 7-speed automatic transmission (7G-TRONIC Plus).

The petrol engine is refined, and offers strong mid-range performance. It claims to achieve 0-100kmph in 7.3 seconds. The aerodynamic body construction reduces wind resistance, and aids to its handling and high speed performance. The current generation of the sedan gets ‘Agility Select’ driving modes – Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual – that alter engine, steering, gearbox and climate control. The new MRA platform makes the new C-Class 100kgs lighter and stiffer than the previous model. This also contributes to its fuel economy and drivability. Volkswagen was a late entrant into this CS segment, what with the development of the Ameo, built on the Polo, taking a ridiculously long four years to go into production. When the Ameo finally made it to showrooms it was already short on ammunition because it was launched with only one powertrain option – a petrol engine and a manual transmission. The CS segment is dominated by diesel-engined competitors, and buyer preference is still predominantly diesel.

So, when VW officially announced the Ameo TDI diesel earlier this month, it was good news for the brand and the buyers. The front bumper protruding from under the camouflaging cover suggests that it would come beefy looking. We hope the Ameo would get some chrome garnishing at the front profile as a styling touch.

The side profile was relatively clearly visible than the front and rear profile. There are not much of character lines visible, while the Vento sports several sharp and deep character lines running through the body. There is a subtle crease running parallel with the greenhouse area, while at the lower part another subtle crease is visible. The pillars are body coloured, while the roof line blends perfectly at the rear. A rooftop antenna is also visible.

Being a sub compact sedan this car clearly sports a small tail section. Volkswagen has just released an image of the tail lamp with the badge visible. The tail lamp looks sharp and the cuts and creases can also be seen surrounding it, which look pretty sharp.

Volkswagen claims the design language of Ameo portrays general bursts of emotion, while the dynamic design was conceptualized to impress everyone. They expect this car will be a game changer in the highly competitive Indian market. The car looks like VW Polo from front and VW Vento from rear, although the side profile tells the tale. Volkswagen Ameo Cabin

Coming to interiors, the Ameo is ditto to Polo hatchback and it’s not a bad approach at all. From clocks to flat-bottomed steering and the touchscreen infotainment, all are familiar. The sense-good feel is evident as the car appears to be expensive from the inside. The quality of material is way above every other car in the segment and the touch & feel and fit-finish levels are also nice, thanks to the pearl black and desert beige colour scheme used on the fabric. What’s really interesting is the arm rest with under storage space created for the driver. However, Ameo doesn’t come with rear arm rest, but the carmaker has compensated that feel-good factor with the rear ac vents.

Talking about the seating and space, for a car measuring less than 4-meter, creating maximum interior space is a challenge for every carmaker. Volkswagen too has done its bit to ensure maximum comfort inside. The front seats offer good support while the back of the front seats has been scooped out in order to give more knee room. And while you won’t get leather upholstery like in other rivals, the fabric seems to have been lifted from the segment above cars. The legroom and the knee room at the rear is decent for a car of this stature.

In terms of equipment, Ameo gets automatic climate control, cooled glovebox, auto-dimming IRVM, rain sensing wipers, cruise control and power one-touch up/down facility on all the four windows. The center console houses a touchscreen infotainment system that not only care of your entertainment aspect with USB, Aux-In, SD-card and Bluetooth connectivity, but also relays feed from the rear parking camera. However, the inclusion of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay would have been the icing on the cake. Other comfort aspects include height adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable ORVM and multi-functional display that provides info such as distance traveled, traveling time, average speed, digital speed display and fuel economy.

Volkswagen Ameo Gearbox

The new Ameo TDI is offered with the same 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine as is the Polo and Vento. Only difference is in the larger turbocharger which has enabled the engine to deliver a tuned-up 81kW or about 110PS of peak power and a peak torque of 250Nm – that is quite impressive for a small car that weighs just over 1,150kgs. With the idling engine rpm level being about 800rpm and the redline starting at about 5,200rpm, the delivery of power and torque is perfectly tuned within the mid-range for power, and low-rpm range for torque. Peak torque kicks in as early as 1,500rpm and turbo-lag is quite minimal. The result is an eager performer for a car in the CS segment. While idling and when you are outside the Ameo, this four-cylinder still has the trademark diesel clatter, but step into the cabin and the good insulation package manages to cut out a lot of the noise. You can still hear the engine at cold start and at high revs. The manual gearbox is a clean shifting 5-speeder and can easily be your choice especially with so much low-end torque available to exploit. The 7-speed, dual clutch DSG automatic is another USP altogether in the Ameo. With so many buyers now preferring automatics, it is a good call to go with the DSG. But then this is not just another auto transmission, this is VW’s popular dual clutch gearbox. Shifts are quick and the gearbox is equally adept at offering shifts for economical, slow-paced driving as it is for aggressive, dynamic driving. On the contrary, the diesel one reads 21.73kmpl in automatic and 22kmpl in the manual version which is fantastic from a VW car.

The Ameo TDI’s ride quality is very similar to the petrol version and the Polo’s. The car remains planted and settled even at high speeds. This is the compact sedan you’ll feel confident in while doing over 160kmph.
